From 13 September, motorists have been able to use the S61 expressway on the route from Szczuczyn to Ełk Południe. This 23.3 km section of the Via Baltica, which forms part of the international E67 route linking Central Europe with Scandinavia, has been officially opened, creating an international transport corridor between Poland and Lithuania – Latvia – Estonia – Finland.
The official opening of the road was attended by, amongst others, the Minister for Infrastructure, Andrzej Adamczyk; the Mayor of Ełk, Tomasz Andrukiewicz; and representatives of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA): Mirosław Nicewicz, Director of the Olsztyn Branch; Wojciech Borzuchowski, Director of the Białystok Branch; and Hubert Mildner, Project Manager; representatives of the Contractor: Marcin Ardziński, Contract Director, and Jacek Gosztyła, Site Manager (PORR), Project Manager Marek Golecki (Unibep) and our representatives on behalf of the Consultant – Director Anna Jędras, Acting Contract Engineer Gerard Kowalczyk, and a team of specialist engineers supervising the proper implementation of the project.
