The third and final section of the Via Baltica international route in Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship was opened on August 12th! It is a 23-kilometre section of the S61 expressway from the Ełk Południe junction to the town of Wysokie.

Just before opening the road to drivers, Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk said a few words about the investment and plans for the development of Polish roads. Mayor of Ełk, Tomasz Andrukiewicz, also expressed his gratitude for the investment, which will contribute to the development of the city.
As usual, the Contractor’s team (Trakcja / Mostostal Warszawa SA / Przedsiębiorstwo Eksploatacji Ulic i Mostów consortium) and the Consultant’s team (Lafrentz Group) took part in the ceremony.

Other invited guests included Secretary of State, Head of the Government’s Centre for Strategic Analysis Norbert Maliszewski, Deputy Minister of National Defence Michał Wiśniewski, Deputy Minister of Development and Technology Olga Semeniuk-Patkowska, MPs and Senators from the region and local government officials.

The Via Baltica international route will connect Ełk to, among others, Warsaw and Lithuania. The expressway will benefit Elk entrepreneurs and investors planning to do business in Masuria. It is also a major convenience for travelling residents and tourists.

For those travelling to the Masuria region, travel time from Warsaw and central Poland is reduced. Currently, the travel time from the capital to Ełk is around 2.5 hours. Once all the sections of the road have been completed, it will be possible to travel the route from Warsaw to Ełk in under two hours, making it the fastest way to get to the Masuria region.
